Global design firm Fentress Architects recently announced the winning designs for the 2011 Fentress Global Challenge, an international competition launched last fall for architecture and engineering students to present their visions for the Airport of the Future. Expert jury members narrowed the 200 submittals to 16 finalists, and then to the top three with two honorable mentions.

The Interior Design Department at New York's Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) has announced Diller Scofidio + Renfro as this year’s recipient of the Lawrence Israel Prize. Endowed by architect Lawrence J. Israel, the prize has been given annually since 1998 to an individual or firm whose ideas and work enrich FIT Interior Design students’ course of study.

Cape Town – Over R147 billion invested over 15 years is needed to alleviate the massive backlog and improve conditions for student housing, revealed a report released by the Minister of Higher Education Blade Nzimande today.
Releasing the ministerial committee’s report on the review of the provision of student housing in Parliament, Nzimande said inadequate student housing had been a contributing factor to the country’s high university failure rate.
He said the student bed shortage stood at about 195 800 in 2010 and was expected to rise to 207 800 next year.

These days we came across a beautiful collection of chairs and we couldn’t help not making an article about them. They caught our attention due to their original appearance with an intriguing design. The collection is designed by Japanese craftsman and designer Kin ichi Ogata who as an art lover, decided forty years ago to start its studio and to mesh structure with beauty through hand-made pieces for all everyday needs.

Johannesburg - Tourism Minister Marthinus van Schalkwyk today told delegates at the Meetings Africa expo that South Africa was fast becoming one of the world's favourite destinations for big events, meetings, conferences and exhibitions.

Durban - The KwaZulu-Natal government has taken a bold step to implement broad-based black economic empowerment - at least 50 percent of all goods and services bought by all provincial departments must now be locally produced and supplied by BBBEE-compliant suppliers.

Johannesburg - Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Ismail Vadi has urged Gauteng motorists to register for the e-tolling system and get their e-tags ahead of the implementation of the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Programme (GFIP).
"Registering for e-tolling is the right thing to do. We want all motorists in the province to register for their e-tolling accounts so that they can get their e-tags," said Vadi during a post-State of the Province Address media briefing at the Gauteng Legislature on Tuesday.
